Mike Stoker
BChD (Leeds) LDS RCS(Eng) MJDF RCS(Eng)
General Dental Practitioner
TPD for Dental Foundation Training
Dental Advisor - NHS England
Experiance : 30 years in practice
Mike was born and bred in the North East growing up in Newcastle and then moving to Whitley Bay as a teenager. He then went to Leeds University and graduated in 1994 when he moved to Hull to complete the Foundation Training year as it was the first time it was compulsory to do. It then was a fast track from associate to partner in the practice he did his foundation training in, all within two years of graduating!!!
The corporate world of dentistry was starting gather some pace and he sold his practice to Oasis one of the first big corporates which then allowed him to do whatever he wanted. Having started a family with his wife they moved to the west coast to live on the Wirral where he bought a practice in Wallasey in 2006. He still works there two days per week seeing both NHS and Denplan patients.
He then got involved in Foundation Training and became a trainer on the North West Scheme for six years before becoming a Training Programme Director looking after the South Cumbria and Lancaster Scheme, supervising the UK graduates transition year after graduation. He then became the Training Programme Director for PLVE which was set up to allow international graduates to work on the NHS in the UK a role he is still involved with today. He also is now the Training Programme director for the joint Dental Foundation and Core Training which is a two year post combining foundation training and dental core training for new graduates.
He also works with NHSE as a part time Dental Advisor doing clinical investigations and complaint reviews as well supervising Internationally Qualified Dentists progression to independent Performers List registration and was part of the team that developed the process that is now followed in the North West.
In his spare time, he is an avid follower of Liverpool FC and watches most home games with his son. He also has a passion for cooking and baking which helps him relax where beef stroganoff would be his signature dish and the cheese scones are fought over.
